Six hours. That's how long we had to turn a stock Radio Flyer wagon into a custom Muppets-themed piece, and the client needed it in hand 36 hours before the party. In the middle of it, someone asked what envelope fits a 4.25 x 5.5 card. The short answers: E6000 for the plastic and glass, B7000 only for the thin flex-prone electronics, and A-6 (4.75 x 6.5) for the invitation. But the wagon story is where the real lessons are.
I coordinate production for a packaging and print shop that also stocks industrial adhesives. In the last four years, I've processed over 200 rush orders, including a March 2024 job where a children's museum called at 9 AM needing a custom display for an event the next day. E6000 on Plastic and Glass: Start With the Surface, Not the Tube
Every single week, a customer asks, "Does E6000 work on plastic?" Or glass. My answer is always: it depends less on the adhesive and more on the plastic.
E6000 is great for most rigid plastics and glass. But the number-one failure I see isn't the glue — it's the surface prep. Wipe the area with isopropyl alcohol, rough it up slightly with fine sandpaper if the surface is glossy, and apply a thin layer. Thin. The bond strength on a thin, well-prepped bead is way higher than a thick glob that never cures internally.
One thing I learned the hard way on a custom foam board project: E6000 needs air to cure. It's a solvent-based adhesive, so if you seal it between two non-porous surfaces with no exposure, it stays soft for days. That catches people off guard.
There are exceptions. PE, PP, and Teflon — high-density or low-surface-energy plastics — E6000 will not grip them. If the part says "polypropylene" on it, skip the E6000 and reach for a plastic-specific structural adhesive or mechanical fasteners. I'm not a chemist, so I can't speak to the cross-linking chemistry, but from a workshop floor perspective, this is what reliably fails and what doesn't.
B7000 vs E6000: The Question Isn't "Which Is Stronger"
B7000 gets a lot of hype, especially in the phone-repair and craft community. People ask, "Is B7000 stronger than E6000?" That's the wrong frame. They're different tools.
In my experience:
- E6000 is thicker — like toothpaste. It fills gaps, grips porous surfaces (wood, fabric, paper), and stays flexible but tough. Great for multi-surface bonds and glass-to-plastic joins.
- B7000 is thinner — like honey. It flows into narrow gaps, dries with a soft, rubbery feel, and works beautifully for electronics and delicate repairs where you need a shock-absorbing seam.
- B7000 usually costs more per ounce than E6000, yet for something like a wagon panel or glass frame, E600 will hold longer and handle shear force better.
The conventional wisdom online says B7000 is the "premium" version. In practice, I found the opposite for most non-electronic applications. We tested both on a batch of acrylic-and-metal sample pieces in late 2024 — E6000 edges out B7000 on impact resistance. Does it matter for real projects? If someone's gluing a weight-bearing latch or a decorative piece that gets handled by kids — yes, it absolutely matters.
The Custom Muppets Radio Flyer Wagon: A Real 36-Hour Turnaround
Here's what actually happened with the wagon. A client came to us in November 2024 through 48 Hour Print for posters, but the real project was a custom wagon for a Muppets-branded party display. They'd bought a stock Radio Flyer wagon, unpainted red metal with a plastic body insert.
The request: attach large Muppets posters to the wagon's plastic and metal surfaces so the wagon looked like a themed parade float. Normal process would be 5–7 business days. We had 36 hours.
The Muppets poster order itself was straightforward — we produced it on a standard matte poster stock through 48 Hour Print, which handles standard products fine. The sticky problem (literally) was mounting. Everyone initially said “just use double-sided tape.” That would have failed within a day on a wagon being bumped around.
Here's what we did:
- Cleaned the plastic and metal surfaces with 99% isopropyl alcohol and let them dry completely.

- Clamped the posters to the wagon using foam blocks and painter's tape for 2 hours. Not ideal — E6000 wants 24 hours to reach full bond strength — but we had a workaround: we used a thin layer, kept the pieces clamped, and the initial grab held overnight.
We paid $180 in courier fees to hand-deliver the wagon across three boroughs the next morning so the client could stage it before their 4 PM party. The client's alternative was a $950 rental of a generic themed cart from an event company. They saved over $700 by going custom — but only because the timing worked out.

Quick answer: A-6 envelope, which measures 4.75 x 6.5 inches. It gives you a comfortable quarter-inch margin on each side. If you're adding stiffness or any bulk (like a small magnet), go up to A-7 (5.25 x 7.25).

One pitfall we hit: a client once ordered custom 4.25 x 5.5 cards and assumed an A-2 envelope would work because the card is called "A-2 size." It doesn't. The A-2 envelope is a different standard for invitation cards of different dimensions — this is exactly the kind of mismatch that causes a wasted batch of 500 printed envelopes.
The Boundaries: When E6000 Isn't the Right Answer
I'm not going to tell you E6000 is the universal adhesive — it isn't. It's not food-safe, so keep it away from anything that touches food unless you have explicit FDA-compliant certification for your specific application. And don't use it on flexible underwater seams (aquarium repairs or anything constantly submerged); a marine-grade sealant is the proper tool there.
For the wagon, it worked because the plastic was a smooth ABS-like surface, the metal was powder-coated, we prepped properly, and the client accepted a 2-hour initial clamp with full cure happening over the following 48 hours. If the party had been in 8 hours instead of 36, we would have recommended a cyanoacrylate gel or a two-part structural adhesive — but that's a different conversation.
Bottom line: understand the surface, respect the cure time, and trust your prep more than any brand claim. And when in doubt, the A-6 envelope answers most card questions you'll get from a client.
